Burscough Sports Development Project

Introduction

Thank you for viewing the proposal for the refurbishment of Burscough Sports (formerly known as Burscough Racquet and Fitness Centre) and engaging in the vision for the site.

West Lancashire Borough Council has been developing exciting plans for improvements at the facility, working with Development Partner Alliance Leisure. The improvements will lead to modern leisure, wellbeing and fitness facilities to meet the needs of Burscough and surrounding areas.

About the existing facility

First opening in 1975, Burscough Sports offers a comprehensive array of facilities for people of all ages and abilities. The centre includes a gym, a large main hall suitable for badminton and 5-a-side football, squash courts, a large floodlit all-weather 3G pitch, a virtual cycling studio and an area where various exercise classes are held. Additional amenities include an activity room, changing and toilets.

• To incorporate changing trends, and meet user needs and preferences
• Improve building aesthetics and comfort
• Optimise capacity and layout
• Flexibility of spaces

Proposed works

New and improved activity opportunities:
• Refurbished and extended gym with 70 stations and functional training space (see example floor plan below)
• New indoor cycling studio
• New wellbeing suite with power-assisted equipment
• Refurbished sports hall and squash court floors

Other refurbishments including:
• Updated and modernised reception and lobby area
• Refurbished changing and toilets
• Refreshed circulation areas and modern signage
• New roof
• Redecorated sports hall
• Refurbished external façade
• Improvements to plant, mechanical and electrical infrastructure
